Breaking The Law Has Become ‘The New Normal’ for a Few but not for We The People

“No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor.”— Theodore Roosevelt, quote from Third State of the Union Address given on December 7th, 1903.

“The Colorado Springs shooter identified as non binary. The Denver shooter identified as trans. The Aberdeen shooter identified as trans. The Nashville shooter identified as trans. One thing is VERY clear: the modern trans movement is radicalizing activists into terrorists.” — Benny Johnson, @bennyjohnson

“The trans movement is the mirror image of Christianity, and therefore its natural enemy. People who believe they’re God can’t stand to be reminded that they’re not. The Christian and Trans movement are totally incompatible.” — Tucker Carlson, Fox News

History has shown us that there are some who break the law and get away with it. At the same time We the People are being held accountable, not for our actions, but rather for the actions of others.

It’s interesting to remember the the Colorado Springs school shooter Anderson Aldrich identified as nonbinary, one of the two Denver school shooters Devon Erickson identified as a transgender, the Aberdeen, Maryland shooter Snochia Moseley identified as transgender and the most recent Nashville, Tennessee school shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale identified as a transgender.

Do you see a pattern, a behavior, that is common and deadly?

QUESTION: Are the non-binary, transgender, gay, lesbian individuals mentally stable?

Or this:

And this:

Here’s a member of Congress:

Certain states have passed “red-flag- laws.” According to World Population Review:

In the U.S., red flag laws authorize police or family members to petition state courts to temporarily remove firearms from a person deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

The order can also bar the person from purchasing guns.

[ … ]

The order can also bar the person from purchasing guns. This typically occurs when relatives or friends are concerned about a loved one who has discussed suicide or harming others and is in possession of firearms.

Provisions for such laws vary state-to-state on matters such as who can initiate the process, if a warrant is required, what factors are considered for the firearms to be removed from posseessions, how long the guns are restricted, and the process by which the individual may regain access to the guns.

Before the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, only five states had red flag laws: Connecticut, Indiana, California, Washington, and Oregon. As of April 2020, 19 states and the District of Columbia have enacted a red flag law.

Note that Colorado and Maryland have red flag laws, Tennessee does not. So having a red flag law doesn’t prevent those deemed “a danger to themselves or others” from carrying out crimes including mass shootings.

Giving Criminal Immunity

Professor at Brooklyn Law School Bennett Capers did a column with video on “criminal immunity.” Criminal immunity is a “get out of jail free” card. Until recently there were two types of criminal immunity:

  1. Use Immunity. A criminal defendant comes in testifies or does whatever in exchange for immunity, the government won’t use anything the defendant says to prosecute that defendant later on. So if a defendant has use immunity and says, “Oh, by the way I killed somebody,” because of use immunity, the government can’t actually use his statement to later prosecute him.
  2. Transactional Immunity. Transactional immunity completely covers a defendant. So transactional immunity is basically a blanket immunity. The government is saying, “You will not be prosecuted for the following crimes no matter what. Even if we learn independent evidence, we still will not prosecute.” So that’s what defendants prefer.

Today we see people who have committed high crimes and even treason against the United States and they’re never charged let alone come to trial. Why? Because the deep state has de facto given them transactional immunity.

This is happening with those in the black, transgender and Muslim communities. It is even happening with the family of the sitting president.

With transactional immunity from the deep state anything goes. Hence we the people are witnessing a growing level of lawlessness, violence and murder, especially in large inner cities, against we the people.

Do you see the pattern now?

A War Between Good and Evil

Murder is a sin.

Christians, Catholics and Jews all believe in what is written in Exodus 20 the Ten Commandments given from God to Moses. Those of the Judeo-Christian faith also believe that there are seven deadly sins:  envy, gluttony, greed or avarice, lust, pride, sloth and wrath.

History shows us that the transgender movement has gone from envy to pride to lust to wrath in a short period of time.

Watch this monologue on Radical Trans Activists and Christians:

The Bottom Line

The war against the Judeo-Christian faith has moved forward with the help, encouragement, policies and massive funding of the federal government.

This anti-Judeo-Christian agenda is part of the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity agenda of the current administration.

Ulysses S. Grant wrote,

“There are but two parties now: traitors and patriots. And I want hereafter to be ranked with the latter and, I trust, the stronger party.”

Patriots believe in the Judeo-Christian principles written into the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

We have witnessed how the transgenders came out of the closet to the transgenders working to put Christians into a closet and then throwing away the key.

We’ve gone from the pejorative of Homophobic, to parents who question what is taught in public school labeled “domestic terrorists” by the Department of Justice, to now open threats against the safety and wellbeing of straight people and the very foundation of the traditional family of one man and one woman and their biological children deemed passé.

It is now clear, after the J6 Congressional hearings, that those who resist the status quo are deemed “insurrectionists” and a clear and present danger to the deep state.

At some point patriots, Jews and Christians will have to physically defend themselves from the anarchist transgenders, the Black Live Matter and Antifa members.

It is now closer than ever. Gird your loins.

Gun Rights: The Death of a Thousand Cuts

Joe Biden played fast and loose with the truth about guns after the tragedy in Nashville this week.

We’ll get to that but, first, a little refresher on why we have the Second Amendment.  It’s not for personal protection.  It’s so that We The People can resist a rogue tyrannical government.  The Founders knew even then how often governments become tyrannical and turn on their own people.  Moreover, under our system, we are considered to be born with individual rights, including the right to bear arms, and no further explanation or apology is necessary.

Biden said AR-15s are “weapons of war”.  This implies AR-15s are fully automatic weapons, which they are not.  AR-15s are not fully automatic assault rifles, despite their looks.  Biden also claimed, “You’re not allowed to own a machine gun.”  That’s not true.  You can own a machine gun – a fully automatic weapon – if you’re at least 21, a legal resident of the U.S., eligible to purchase a firearm, pass an 8-10 month background check, pay the $200 transfer tax, and are not otherwise a “prohibited person”.

Biden made these claims in the service of more gun control, as if taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is going to accomplish anything.  These arguments come out every time there’s a tragedy, but the gun grabbers in the government are becoming increasingly brazen.  They’re assaulting gun rights in ways that would have been unthinkable even five years ago.

Joe Biden went around Congress and directed the Attorney General to take the U.S. as “close as possible” to universal background checks without legislation.

The ATF adopted a “zero tolerance” policy against gun stores that violate federal firearm licensing requirements, meaning licenses can now be taken away for minor infractions even without a prior history of violations.  Sixteen ATF agents swooped down on a gun store in Georgia for a surprise inspection, but left after learning a member of Congress was watching.

The ATF recently expanded the gun registry by administratively declaring pistol owners who add stabilizing braces must register.

The ATF is also using income data to conduct warrantless tracking of gun purchasers with low income who, the bureau figures, should not be able to afford to buy guns.

The FBI massively underreported the number of active shooting incidents ended by good guys with guns.

Congressional Democrats introduced legislation that would further restrict the sale of ammunition and require sellers to report purchases in some instances.

A Maryland bill would require embedded trackers in some guns sold in the state.

New York passed a law last year requiring gun owners who apply for a concealed carry permit to submit their social media history to the state.

That’s a lot of hostility to gun rights, but the gun grabbers aren’t done.  Did you ever hear them say ‘we promise to stop after this – this far and no farther’?  Of course not.  They want ALL our freedom, so I’m not willing to give them ANY of it.  Don’t doubt me when I say they want all our freedom.  Randi Weingarten, the head of the American Federation of Teachers union, just called for a complete ban on guns.

So the gun grabbers have put me in the position of saying ‘no compromises’ because I know their incessant demands are never going to stop.  They’re already showing the kind of tyrannical tendencies the Second Amendment is intended to deter.  Even if you don’t like guns, the forces of liberty must band together to stop the gun grabbers from taking any more of our freedom.

Feds Charge Man With Firebombing Pro-Life Group’s Office After Dobbs Decision Leak

A Wisconsin man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an attack on a pro-life organization’s office just days after the leak of the Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced.

Authorities identified the man, Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, as responsible for a May 8 firebombing of the Wisconsin Family Action office based on DNA samples recovered from a partially eaten burrito that matched those found at the scene, according to the court filing obtained by Reuters. Roychowdhury was arrested at a Boston airport Tuesday and will appear today in the U.S. District Court in Boston, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Wisconsin Family Action’s office was damaged after Molotov cocktails were thrown into the building, a fire was started, and the building was painted with the message, “If abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either.”

“According to the complaint, Mr. Roychowdhury used an incendiary device in violation of federal law in connection with his efforts to terrorize and intimidate a private organization,” Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen said in a press release. “I commend the commitment and professionalism of law enforcement personnel who worked exhaustively to ensure that justice is served.”

The leaked Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which found “no constitutional right to abortion,” was published by Politico on May 2.

Roychowdhury was identified earlier as a suspect for graffiti painted on Wisconsin State Capitol grounds during a Jan. 21 protest, which read “We will get revenge,” according to court documents. He faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted.

“This group of local and federal law enforcement officers has worked, with the federal prosecutors, diligently and creatively to move the investigation forward,” said U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea for the Western District of Wisconsin in a DOJ news release. “This case is an example of the results law enforcement can achieve when local and federal law investigators work as a team.”

In January, the DOJ indicted two suspects in vandalisms that occurred at three Florida pro-life pregnancy centers following the overturn of Roe v. Wade last June, Catholic News Agency reported. The indictments were the first known since the string of attacks on pro-life clinics, churches, and organizations, which the Family Research Council records have reached over 100, began last summer.

Wisconsin Family Action did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

If the Mentally Ill ‘Mustn’t Own Guns,’ What About ‘Trans’ People?

The timing of the tragic Nashville shooting, in which a MUSS (Made-up Sexual Status, aka “transgender”) individual killed six at a Christian school, is a bit odd. National Public Radio had just recently done a piece on how MUSS and other “LGBTQ” people are buying guns because, the story goes, they believe they’re imperiled by conservatives. As one sexual devolutionary NPR quoted put it, “If the world is dangerous, then you have to be dangerous back, and that very much has pushed me into where I am now.”

As for what pushed 28-year-old Audrey Hale into opening fire Monday at The Covenant School, which she once attended, the media largely pretend to have no clue. They don’t want you to have one, either. This is why, shamelessly, they often hide Hale’s MUSS status and instead focus on guns. Here’s how brazen it is, too:

With jihadist-like zeal and as a rule, the media will use a MUSS individual’s “preferred pronouns” and chosen opposite-sex name and seek to “cancel” anyone not following suit. Yet now, they not only happily “deadname” Hale, but identify her as a “female suspect” or “female shooter” and reference her using feminine pronouns.

Newsweek did this, making no mention whatsoever of Hale’s MUSS status. Metro at least noted that the woman “identified as transgender,” though it still used feminine pronouns even though the killer had embraced he/him ones. (The deadnaming is perhaps understandable, as reports that Hale was going by first name “Aiden” are unconfirmed.) I mean, you’d almost think these articles were written by Selwyn Duke — except for one thing:

The media hide Hale’s MUSS status because, if they didn’t, you just might suspect the shooting could’ve been an anti-Christian hate crime.

Second, it might occur to some people that maybe, just perhaps, society has more to fear from MUSS individuals than they do from society.

This is reality, too. Contrary to media myth and as I reported in 2020, studies have shown that MUSS individuals are less likely to be murdered than normal people are and are more likely to kill than be killed. (They’re also overrepresented among pedophiles.)

This raises a question, given “Red Flag” laws’ popularity: Do we need Rainbow Flag laws?

For the record, I’m skeptical of such legislation, to say the least, and know that removal of Second Amendment rights is not the real remedy for crime. The issue, though, is hypocrisy.

Red Flag laws have been sold with the idea that guns “must be kept from the mentally ill’s hands.” We’ve heard this continually. Yet how, then, does it make sense giving a whole category of mentally ill individuals a special dispensation from this prohibition by reclassifying their psychological disorder as an “identity” or “lifestyle choice”?

As I’ve pointed out for years, the MUSS phenomenon is not a biological matter requiring a biological remedy, but results from serious psychological issues. Audrey Hale isn’t the first MUSS mass shooter, either. WND cited other examples in 2019 and, quoting a report by website National Justice, related that MUSS individuals’ “small population is well represented among murderers, serial killers and pedophiles.”

Personally speaking, I cannot think of another group with so many hostile, unstable members. Coming to mind is the MUSS individual who commented, after I wrote an article criticizing the MUSS agenda, that he wanted “my head on a platter.” Then there was the 2015 Dr. Drew program incident in which Robert Tur (aka “Zoey” Tur), a large, muscular man in a dress, grabbed commentator Ben Shapiro’s neck and threatened to send him “home in an ambulance” (video below).

When was the last time you saw someone threaten this kind of violence during a political/social discussion?

Such behavior is hardly unfathomable. MUSS individuals are very troubled, generally unhappy people uncomfortable in their own skin. And the lie they’re living — that they can be the opposite sex — is so grand and fragile that Truth’s slightest utterance can burst their bubble. This can be enraging. They may externalize, too, attributing their unhappiness to others’ failure to affirm their delusion. They then may lash out at those they believe are making them miserable.

There also are the drugs MUSS individuals often take. Given the studies indicating steroid use can cause increased aggression, one could wonder: Was Hale on testosterone?

Hormones are powerful substances. How does putting people on a cross-sex hormone regimen, along with perhaps other drugs, affect their mentality? Is giving an already disturbed individual a cocktail of medications designed to induce opposite-sex physical changes really a good idea?

The bottom line, however, concerns whether we’re serious about keeping guns out of the mentally ill’s hands. If so, then “mentally ill” mustn’t be defined based on political will.

‘This Country Needs Revival’: Transgender Activist Kills 6 at Christian School in Nashville

A woman who identifies as a transgender man murdered six people inside a Christian school in Nashville Monday morning before police killed her — an assault that a U.S. congressman attributed to potentially “some sort of demonic possession.” The United States “needs revival,” he said, before such targeted shootings become a heartbreaking new normal.

Around 10:13 a.m., a 28-year-old named Audrey Elizabeth Hale shot open a side door and opened fire inside Covenant School, a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, which educates children from preschool through the sixth grade. Hale killed six people — three students and three employees — before two members of the police response stopped her 14 minutes later at 10:27 a.m.

Hale had a detailed attack plan, complete with maps of the school and a written explanation, law enforcement officials revealed.

“We have a manifesto,” Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake told reporters at the Monday afternoon press conference. “We have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this day.”

Hale once attended the Christian school in the affluent Green Hills neighborhood and still lived in Nashville, the officer stated. Sources said Hale initially intended to target a different location but settled on the school due to its weaker security standards.

Drake announced that Hale claimed the lives of students Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Hallie Scruggs, who were all nine years old; as well as Head of School Katherine Koonce, 60; substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61; and custodian Mike Hill, 61.

“Obviously, it’s a mental health issue, and it’s just a complete and total tragedy,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) told Family Research Council President Tony Perkins on “Washington Watch” Monday afternoon.

“I honestly feel like this is some sort of demonic possession that has gotten into our world today. And it’s become accepted,” he continued. Burchett added that the Biden “White House has two men who wear dresses,” apparently referencing HHS Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine and Sam Brinton, who oversaw spent nuclear fuel until he “was fired, because he was stealing dresses at the airport.”

“This country needs this revival, Tony,” Burchett told Perkins. “All the laws and all the politicians pontificating back and forth are not going to solve it. Until we have a revival in this country, I’m afraid this is going to be more the norm than the exception.”

Perkins said the shooting shows that Christian school students are “not beyond the reach of” the “corrupting and chaotic influence of [U.S.] culture.”

Hale’s former classmate at the Nossi College of Art and Design confirmed that the shooter identified as male, using the name “Aiden Hale.” Reporters pressed Drake for additional details about what role Hale’s transgender identity played in the mass murder inside a church-run school.

“Do you have any reason to believe that how she identifies has any motive for targeting the school?” asked one journalist.

“We can give you that at a later time. There is some theory to that,” Drake answered.

“So was this a targeted attack?” another reporter followed up.

It was,” he replied.

As of this writing, police have not officially announced what role the shooter’s gender identity played in the shooting.

“Who radicalized the Nashville shooter? What media outlets, pundits and politicians share and spread the murderer’s ideology?” asked Glenn Greenwald, a progressive author who identifies as homosexual. “This is the twisted game that’s played every time there’s a massacre that presents the opportunity to blame one’s enemies. It can’t be done selectively.”

An LGBT activist attacked Family Research Council’s headquarters, the sponsor of The Washington Stand, in August 2012 after the Southern Poverty Law Center branded FRC as a “hate group.” FRC Building Manager Leo Johnson took a bullet while stopping the SPLC-inspired shooter, Floyd Lee Corkins, who entered a guilty plea to charges of domestic terrorism the following September.

President Joe Biden earned criticism for opening a prescheduled press conference shortly after the tragedy with a litany of his canned jokes. “My name is Joe Biden. I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband. I like ice cream — chocolate chip,” he told the crowd. “I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. By the way I have a full refrigerator, full, upstairs.”

Biden went on to describe the school shooting as “a parent’s worst nightmare” and to call for an “assault weapons” ban, similar to the one he authored in 1994. Other prominent Democrats promoting gun control legislation in the tragedy’s wake included Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and Rep. Tina Smith (D-Minn.). A local anti-gun activist commandeered the microphone at the Nashville police officer’s press briefing to demand further restrictions on the Second Amendment.

Hale reportedly carried out the shooting with two rifles and a handgun before losing her own life.

“How much hormones like testosterone and medications for mental illness was the transgender Nashville school shooter taking?” asked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.). “Everyone can stop blaming guns now.”

Other commentators contrasted Monday’s prompt police response with the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

But Christians should look beyond issues of gun distribution and police response time, to the deep recesses of the heart, said Perkins. “We need God in America again,” he concluded. “And this is further evidence that, as we’ve moved from His truth and from His ways, we suffer the consequences.”

‘Trans joy’ in Nashville

What can explain the demonic explosion of hatred?

What was in the head of the 28-year-old who meticulously planned a rampage in her old school? What inspired her to stockpile guns and barge into a school and kill three nine-year-olds and three adults? What rage? What darkness? What sickness?

That’s the question everyone is asking about Audrey Elizabeth Hale.

We’ll never know for sure what she was thinking; police shot her dead at the Covenant School in Nashville. Some clues may lie in her “manifesto”. It hasn’t been released by police but no doubt it’s a deranged connect-the-dots of hatred and self-pity. The Nashville police chief said that she “was under care – doctor’s care – for an emotional disorder”. She was also transgender and identified as a man named Aiden.

In the end horrors like these are inexplicable, unless you believe in the demonic. Apart from that, there are all sorts of theories.

Transphobia:

“I don’t condone Audrey Hale’s actions,” tweeted one person, “though I understand their outrage against an intolerant state that brainwashes children through religious indoctrination. The reality is this human still identified as that child attending that school and carried that pain into adulthood.”

Too much testosterone as part of Audrey’s transgender medications.

Controversial conservative Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted that “How much hormones like testosterone and medications for mental illness was the transgender Nashville school shooter taking? Everyone can stop blaming guns now.”

Too much Christianity:

The account of @TNDTracker was suspended by Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, President Biden and many pundits did blame guns and called for gun control.

Political point-scoring over the deaths of three children and three adults and the shooter at the Covenant School in Nashville yesterday is at best embarrassing, at worst despicable. But one thing must be said. This tragedy ought to put forever to rest the idea of “trans joy”.

“Trans joy” is a slogan that trans activists use to console each other. The idea is that becoming trans is achieving authenticity and peace with your own dreams. Despite discrimination and transphobia, trans people can draw on deep reserves of serenity and unspoken happiness: joy.

The American Civil Liberties Union declares: “When forces larger than us try to break our spirit, we can respond as forcefully and effectively with joy as we can with anger, defiance, and protest.”

You can expect to hear more about this cultish tosh on Friday, for March 31 is International Transgender Day of Visibility.

An obscure group called the Trans Resistance Network issued a statement after the Nashville shootings. It spoke of the “the inner strength and beauty of transgender people”. And then it defended Audrey/Aiden Hale. “[He] felt he had no other effective way to be seen than to lash out by taking the life of others, and by consequence, himself.”

If killing nine-year-olds is part of a trans programme for visibility, there must be something desperately wrong with being trans. It doesn’t resolve their unhappiness and loneliness; in the long run it will probably make them worse.  There may be no evidence that being transgender is predictive of violence. But it does seem to be predictive of misery.

Trans activists use the notion of “trans joy” and LGBTQI+ “Pride” to sell their ideology to teenagers. But the tormented life and death of Audrey Hale show that this is a gilt-edged fraud. There was no inner strength and beauty – only demons.

Putin says Russia will station tactical nukes in Belarus

By APN, March 25, 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans on Saturday to station tactical nuclear weapons in neighboring Belarus, a warning to the West as it steps up military support for Ukraine.

Putin said the move was triggered by Britain’s decision this past week to provide Ukraine with armor-piercing rounds containing depleted uranium.

The Real State of The Union

“In a very brief time, we all but have destroyed the downtowns of our major cities—which will increasingly become vacant in a manner like the 6th-century A.D. Roman forum.” — Victor Davis Hanson, quote from Life Among the Ruins.

A must read from American’s great political philosopher, Victor Davis Hanson.

Life Among the Ruins

By Victor Davis Hanson

American society is facing three existential crises, not unlike those that overcame the late Roman, and a millennium later, terminal Byzantine, empires.

American society is facing three existential crises not unlike those that overcame the late Roman, and a millennium later, terminal Byzantine, empires.

Premodern Barbarism

We are suffering an epidemic of premodern barbarism. The signs unfortunately appear everywhere. Over half a million homeless people crowd our big-city downtowns.

Most know the result of such Medieval street living is unhealthy, violent, and lethal for all concerned. Yet no one knows—or even seems to worry about—how to stop it.

So public defecation, urination, fornication, and injection continue unabated. Progressive urban pedestrians pass by holding their noses, averting their gazes, and accelerating the pace of their walking. The greenest generation in history allows its sidewalks to become pre-civilizational sewers. In a very brief time, we all but have destroyed the downtowns of our major cities—which will increasingly become vacant in a manner like the 6th-century A.D. Roman forum.

All accept that defunding the police, no-cash bail, Soros-funded district attorneys, and radical changes in jurisprudence have destroyed deterrence. The only dividend is the unleashing of a criminal class to smash-and-grab, carjack, steal, burglarize, execute, and assault—with de facto immunity. Instead we are sometimes lectured that looting is not a crime, but lengthy incarceration is criminally immoral.

We have redefined felonies as misdemeanors warranting no punishment. Misdemeanors are now infractions that are not criminal. Infractions we treat as lifestyle choices. Normality, not criminality, is deemed criminal. We all know this will not work, but still wonder why it continues.

Many among the middle classes of our cities who can flee or move, do so—like 5th-century equestrians who left Rome for rural fortified farms before the onslaught of the Ostrogoths and Visigoths. For most of our lives we were lectured that the old southern states—Florida, Tennessee, Texas—were backward and uninviting. Now even liberals often flee to them, leaving behind supposedly cosmopolitan Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Chicago, Baltimore, and New York. The more people leave the blue states, the more those states praise themselves as utopian.

The less well-off, without the means to leave, hope that their environs have hit bottom so things can only improve. The elite who caused this premodern catastrophe assumes they will always have the money and wherewithal to ensure that themselves and their own can navigate around or even profit from the barbarism they unleashed. For them the critic, not the target of criticism, is the greater threat.

The hard urban work of the 1990s and early 2000s—cleaner, safer subways, secure nightlife downtown, clean sidewalks, low vacancy rates, little vagrancy, and litter-free streets—so often has been undone, deliberately so. We are descending to the late 1960s and 1970s wild streets—if we are lucky the mayhem does not devolve even further.

A mere 10 years ago, if an American learned that a man was arrested for clubbing, robbing, or shooting innocents, and yet would be released from custody that day of his crime, he would have thought it an obscenity. Now he fears that often the criminal will not even be arrested.

A once secure border no longer exists. Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas simply demolished it and allowed 6-7 million foreign nationals to cross illegally into the United States without audits—to the delight of their apparent constituent, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

What would shame a Biden or Mayorkas? What would change their minds? Billions of dollars spent on social services for the lawbreaking at the expense of the American poor?

Would 100,000 annual lethal overdoses—12 times more than those who died over 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan combined—from drugs that flow across the open border sway them? Or would it take 200,000, or 300,000 deaths before Joe Biden relented and ceased his chuckling?

What does a people do when its highest officials simply renounce their oaths of office and refuse to enforce laws they don’t like? Everyone knows the border will eventually have to become secure, but none have any idea whether it will take another 20, 30, or 50 million illegal entrants and 1 million more fentanyl deaths to close it.

Polls show race relations have hit historic lows. Much of the ecumenicalism of the post-Civil Rights movement seems squandered—almost deliberately so.

The Left now rarely mentions Martin Luther King, Jr. or even the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964. Perhaps it knows it has violated the spirit and legacy of both.

Today, our identity politics leaders believe that the color of our skin, not the content of our character, certainly matters more. The practitioners of the new tribalism in some sense fear outlawing segregation and discrimination by race. They know to do so would end racially restricted houses and safe spaces, racially exclusive graduations, and race-based admissions, hiring, and promotion on campus.

Read Professor Ibram X. Kendi and his message is implicit. For him, the problem with a Jim Crow-like system was not segregation or racial chauvinism per se, but merely who was doing the victimizing and who were the victims: so the original racism was bad; but racism in reverse is good.

We abhor violence, racism, and misogyny—in the abstract. Yet the entire hip-hop industry would find no audience—or so we are told by its appeasers—if rappers refrained from “ho” misogyny, brags of violence against law enforcement, and self-described proprietary use of the N-word.

Most know that young black males under 30 commit violent crimes at well over 10 times their 3-4 percent demographic of the population—so often victimizing the nonwhite. All know that reality must remain unmentionable even as its causes need to be debated and discussed if lives are to be saved. Yet the greater crime seems not the crime itself, but even mentioning crime.

Postmodern Abyss

Postmodernism in our age is deadlier even than premodernism. Sexually explicit drag shows that allow the attendance of children 20 years ago would have been outlawed—by liberals worried over the trauma of the young watching performance-art simulated sex.

Now the children come last and the performers first—as ratified by the same liberals. But to fathom the new transitioning, simply learn from ancient transitioning and gender dysphoria, an unhappy classical theme from Catullus’ Attis poem (stimulatus ibi furenti rabie, vagus/ devolsit ili acuto sibi pondera silice/ itaque ut relicta sensit sibi membra sine viro) to Giton in Petronius’ Satyricon.

Current “science” is now synonymous with ideology, religion, or superstition. Lockdowns, mRNA vaccinations, masking, transgenderism, “climate change,” and green power brook no dissent. They are declared scientifically correct in the manner that the sun used to revolve around the earth, and any dissenting Galileo or Copernicus is cancel-cultured, doxxed, and deplatformed.

It is now verboten to cite the causes of the current upswing. We must remain silent about the classical exegeses that cults, pornography, and constructed sexual identities, when not biological, were the manifestations of a bored culture’s affluence (luxus), leisure (otium), and decadence (licentia/dissolutio).

The classical analyses of an elite collapse focus on a falling birth rate, a scarce labor force, ubiquitous abortion, an undermanned military, and a shrinking population. We suffer all that and perhaps more still.

Millions of young men are detached and ensconced in solitude, their indebted 20s too often consumed with video-gaming, internet surfing, or consumption of porn. Many  suffer from prolonged adolescence. Many assume that they are immune from criticism, given that the alternative of getting married, having children, finding a full-time job, and buying a house is society’s new abnormal.

Rarely has an elite society become so Victorian and yet so raunchy. A slip with an anachronistic “Gal” or “Honey” can get one fired. Meanwhile, grabbing one’s genitals while pregnant on stage before 120 million viewers is considered a successful Super Bowl extravaganza.

Our army is short of its annual recruitment by 25 percent. We all suspect but do not say out loud the cause. The stereotyping of poor and middle-class white males as both raging and biased, and yet expected yet to fight and die in misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq, has finally convinced the parents of these 18-year-olds to say, “no more.”

Need we say anything about the lack of efficacy or morality of the Department of Justice, FBI, or CIA?

Or rather is there anything the FBI will not do?

Doctor court evidence? Hire Twitter to suppress the news? Monitor parents at school board meetings? Allow directors to lie under oath or “misremember” before Congress?

Swiping clean subpoenaed phones? Hiring fakers to compile dirt on a presidential candidate—and then using that known smear to hoodwink a judge to allow spying on Americans?

Suppressing evidence on a laptop to warp an election? Raiding an ex-president’s home with a SWAT-like team? Spying on Catholics in mass? Storming a home full of children of a man accused of a politically incorrect misdemeanor?

The more the military has been stalemated in Iraq, humiliated in Afghanistan, and dreading what China will soon do or what Iran will even sooner let off, the more it insists our priorities should be diversity, equity, and inclusion. Will that escapism ensure more lethal pilots, tank commanders, and Marine company commanders?

The mindsets of too many of our new generations of command are twofold: first to be promoted by virtue signaling woke policies that they must know eventually will hamper combat readiness, and then in the future to rotate at retirement into multimillionaire status by leveraging past expertise for defense contractors. Keep that in mind and almost every publicly uttered nonsense from our highest in the Pentagon makes perfect sense.

Them

There is a third challenge. Our enemies—illiberal, deadly, and vengeful—have concluded we are more effective critics of ourselves than are they. They enjoy our divided nation, torn apart by racial incivility, dysfunctional cities, and woke madness. (Notice how even the communists long ago dropped deadly Maoist wokeism, or how the Russians viewed the Soviet commissariat as antithetical to their military and economic agendas.)

‘State-Sanctioned Kidnapping’: California Democrat Bill Gives ‘Therapists’ Power to Take Children Away from Parents ‘Without Accusation, Evidence, or Trial’

No child is safe.

And there you have it. That’s what’s behind it all, the left’s malevolent goal – the destruction of our most basic and beautiful building block of civilization. There is no woman, there is no man, no family – just the predatory state. We are in the throes of a societal breakdown.

‘State-sanctioned kidnapping’: California bill would give therapists power to take children over 12 from parents ‘without accusation, evidence, or trial’

By: Post Millennial, Mar 24, 2023:

A California Democrat has proposed a bill that would allow a mental health professional to place a child as young as 12 in a residential shelter facility without parental knowledge or consent and without there being any prior allegations of incest or child abuse.

The stated purpose of AB 665, introduced by Assembly Member Wendy Carrillo, is to bring two existing laws into alignment. Currently children age 12 and over are able to consent to receiving mental health treatment or counseling services but cannot consent to being placed into a residential shelter facility unless deemed either a risk to themselves or others, or in cases where the minor is an alleged victim of incest or child abuse. AB 665 seeks to remove these caveats.

The bill is strongly opposed by Our Duty, an international group of parents of children who are, or were, gender-questioning, who believe the law would amount to “state-sanctioned kidnapping.”

According to Erin Friday, co-lead of Our Duty, the bill will give counselors unfettered control over children age 12 and above. In a letter to the state assembly, Friday gives the example of a hypothetical 6th grader who informs her school counselor that she is a “trans boy.” Friday argues that if AB 665 were to be enacted, that child may not come home from school that day but could instead be sent to an “LGBTQ housing facility.”

“The parents will have no idea what happened to their child,” writes Friday. “Imagine their fear and anxiety. These parents are criminalized without an accusation, evidence or trial.”

AB 665 states that a “shocking 78 percent of LGBTQ+ youth who were surveyed shared they had considered suicide,” and most had done so in the last year, and that nearly one-third had made an attempt in the past year.

The bill goes on to state that LGBTQ+ youth experience depression and anxiety, as well as other negative outcomes, due to rejection from parents, harassment in school, and the “overall LGBTQ negativity present in society.”

Many so-called gender-affirming therapists believe that non-affirming parents are a danger to their children, while at the same time holding the belief that experimental sex change interventions, such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, are “life-saving” care.

Bill AB665 would give such therapists the power to send a gender-confused child to a residential shelter facility.

Dr. Riitta Kaltiala, chief psychiatrist at Finland’s Tampere U gender clinic, recently said the transition-or-suicide narrative is “purposeful disinformation, the dissemination of which is irresponsible.”

Scotland Gets It’s First Muslim Leader Who Delivered Tirade Against ‘Too Many Whites’ in Scottish Government

Back In 2021, thanks to the newly elected  Scottish leader Humza Yousaf (then Justice Minister)  legislation was put in place that would allow citizens to be arrested for dinner conversations that had in their our own homes, if anyone feels there is “hate” involved.

The bill is nothing more than a gag order against people who are unwilling to put up with the human rights violations that all too often occur when living next to Pakistani Muslims. Rather than adapt and fit in, many Muslims want us silenced so we can’t criticise them. (more)

The Scots elected him to lead them? The West is indeed on a suicide mission.

In light of Humza Yousaf’s words, that Muslim groups and their Leftist allies have for over two decades now insisted repeatedly that any honest analysis of how Islamic jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify jihad violence and make recruits among peaceful Muslims is “stirring up hatred.” So he is essentially calling for the criminalization even of private conversations that appear to be critical of Islam. If he isn’t roundly criticized and removed from office, it will be another sign of Britain’s imminent demise as a free society.

“Hate crime bill: Hate talk in homes ‘must be prosecuted,’” by Mark McLaughlin, The Times, October 28 2020 (thanks to Eugene Volokh):

Muslim Humza Yousaf, Who Previously Complained About Too Many Whites in Scottish Government, Wins Election to be Scotland’s Next Leader

By Cristina Laila, TGP, Mar. 27, 2023L

Humza Yousaf, a Muslim who complained about too many white people in the Scottish government, was elected the new head of the Scottish National Party.

“We should all take pride in the fact that today we have sent a clear message, that your color of skin, your faith, is not a barrier to leading the country we all call home,” Humza Yousaf said.

Yousaf’s father is from Pakistan and his mother is from Kenya.

CNBC reported:

Humza Yousaf on Monday was elected the new head of the Scottish National Party, promising in a speech to bring the party together, support citizens with the cost-of-living crisis and deliver independence from the United Kingdom.

He is slated to assume political leadership in Scotland following his nomination in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday.

Yousaf said his immediate priority would be to “protect every Scot, as far as we possibly can, from the harm inflicted by the cost-of-living crisis, to recover and reform our NHS and other vital public services, to support our wellbeing economy, to improve the life chances of people right across this country.”

He added that he would work on plans to “extend childcare, improve rural housing, support small businesses and boost innovation.”

The SNP supports the campaign for Scotland to gain independence from the United Kingdom and holds a majority of 64 of the 129 seats in the Scottish parliament, giving it control over devolved areas that include housing, education, justice, local government and areas of taxation.

Berlin Voters Reject Bid to Become Climate Neutral by 2030

Germany and the rest of the Europe has suffered the terrible consequence of the big climate hoax.

When reality meets the lie, it’s seismic.

Berlin Voters Balk at Fast-Tracking Climate Neutrality by 2030

By

Berlin voters balked at a plan to make the German capital climate-neutral by law by 2030, which would have put it 15 years ahead of Germany’s national target.

The referendum, which would have obligated the city-state’s government to enshrine the climate goal in law, failed after fewer than the required 607,000 voters voted in favor, according to the state election commissioner’s tally. About 2.4 million people were eligible.

The result leaves in place a non-binding goal of climate neutrality by 2045, which is in line with the rest of Germany.

Referendum organizers, a nonprofit initiative called Klimaneustart Berlin, argued that Berlin’s governing body is “acting far too hesitantly.”

Days earlier, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that time to stop global warming of more than 1.5C is running out.

Germany, which emits the most carbon dioxide among European countries, has lagged on its emissions goals and was most recently thrown off track by the energy crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Berliners vote down referendum on tighter climate goals

By

BERLIN, March 26 (Reuters) – A referendum in Berlin on Sunday that would have bound the city to strive to be climate neutral by 2030 has failed, the city’s mayor Franziska Giffey said in a statement.

The measure would have forced the new conservative local government to invest heavily in renewable energy, building efficiency and public transport.

Had it passed, Berlin would have been one of the few major European cities with a legally binding goal to become carbon neutral in seven years.

The result “shows that the majority of Berliners also see that the demands of the referendum could not have been implemented – not even if they were cast into law,” Giffey said.

The European Union last year started a scheme to help 100 cities inside and outside of the bloc become climate neutral by 2030, but the scheme and the financial support it offers are not legally binding.

The referendum was a test of whether Germans, or at least Berliners, want Germany’s climate policy, which now aims to make Europe’s biggest economy carbon-neutral by 2045, to be more ambitious.

Nashville School Shooter Audrey Hale Identified as Transgender and Had Detailed Manifestor to Attack Christian Academy

By: NY Post, March 27, 2022:

Nashville police revealed that the 28-year-old who shot and killed six people at the Covenant School, including three children, identified as transgender and had a detailed manifesto to attack the Christian academy.

Officials said Audrey Hale, a former student, entered the school Monday morning by shooting through a door on the side of the building.

While inside, Hale killed Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9, as well as custodian Mike Hill and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, both 61, and school head Katherine Koonce, 60.

Following the shootings, Hale was killed when they encountered officers on the second floor by 10:27 a.m., fourteen minutes after the alarm was raised.

Police said Hale was equipped with at least two assault weapons and a handgun, and in searching her family home in Nashville, officers found detailed maps and a manifesto of the attack.

“We have a manifesto, we have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this day,” Nashville Metropolitan police chief John Drake said about the discovery.

He added that Hale was “prepared to do more harm than was actually done,” and that she had drawn up plans to attack another school in the area, but backed out of them because the school was too secure.

Police chief tells NBC News a sense of ‘resentment’ may have fueled Nashville shooter’s attack at former school

By  and

A sense of “resentment” might have played a role in a 28-year-old’s deadly attack on the private Christian school they once attended, Nashville police said Monday.

The shooter, Nashville resident Audrey Hale, had no previous criminal record before opening fire at The Covenant School, killing three children and three adults, authorities said.

“There’s some belief that there was some resentment for having to go to that school,” Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake told Lester Holt of NBC News.

A heavily armed woman who gunned down three children and three staff members at a Nashville school on Monday appears to be a former student of the private Christian campus, police said.

The shooter was identified as Audrey Hale, 28, of Nashville, according to the chief, who said she identifies as transgender.

According to police, Hale was armed with two “assault-style rifles and a handgun” when she was confronted by five officers. Two of those opened fire and killed her, police said.

DeSantis Signs Universal School Choice Program Into Law

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a piece of legislation into law on Monday creating a universal school choice program.

House Bill 1, sponsored by the Education Quality Subcommittee, establishes an Education Savings Accounts (ESA) program under which every family is eligible to receive up to $8,000 to cover education expenses outside of the public school system. The vouchers will be distributed on a “priority” basis, with families of four making less than $51,000 annually receiving the funds first.

“The state of Florida is number one when it comes to education freedom and education choice,” DeSantis said at a Monday press conference. “Today’s bill signing cements us in that number one position because we will be signing legislation which will represent the largest expansion of education choice not just in the history of this state, but in the history of these United States.”

Under the law, students who are “residents of the state” or “eligible to enroll in kindergarten through grade 12” are eligible for the tax-payer funded voucher.

Florida’s previous school choice program was limited to low-income families and students with disabilities, which 1.3 million students utilized. Students were on a waitlist for the previous program, according to the Florida Voice.

With DeSantis’ signature, Florida became the sixth state in the last two years to move to universal school choice; Arizona first enacted universal school choice making all K-12 students eligible for state funded vouchers. On March 8, Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders signed a piece of legislation into law creating a universal school choice program by the 2025-2026 school year.

“With the governor’s support and signature today, Florida delivers the largest expansion of education freedom in our nation’s history and that is something we should all be proud about,” Florida Republican House Speaker Paul Renner said at the press conference.

How Lori Kuykendall Is Combatting Cultural Lies in Sex Education

This week, at Family Policy Alliance’s SoConCon Social Conservative Policy Conference, I sat down with Lori Kuykendall, president of Beacon Health Education Resources. In this conversation, we explore how her organization is fighting back against exploitative progressive sexual education curricula — and teaching kids about the beauty of God’s creation.

JOY STOCKBAUER: Why don’t we start off with a little information about your organization and how it came to be?

LORI KUYKENDALL: I have worked in the field of health education and sex education since 1985. My first job out of college with my health education degree, ready to change the world, landed me at a women’s pregnancy center in the Houston, Texas area. I didn’t know about pregnancy centers, I probably would not have considered myself pro-life at the time, but I was interested in serving where the needs were in health education. I remember going home with a little purple brochure that night when I first met the ladies, and it was called “What does the Bible say about abortion?” That night, my heart was turned when I saw there in black and white what the truths are about life and who ordains life.

STOCKBAUER: So at this point were you already a Christian?

KUYKENDALL: Yes, I was — and I would have said I would not have had an abortion myself, but I wouldn’t have told you that you couldn’t. I wasn’t convicted and didn’t understand what abortion was and why it would or would not have been right in God’s eyes, especially. That pregnancy center said to me, “We want to reach the girls before they need us.” They asked me to start a prevention program out in the community there. That was sort of where I started in abstinence education. I’ve worked since then almost 30 years, which makes me old — but the experience of partnering with the pregnancy center movement and also with the sexual risk avoidance movement, or SRA education and optimal health — those are the words that we use when advancing what really is God’s good, best plan for young people and family and marriage.

I work now in consulting and supporting those programs from a public policy side, and a curriculum development side. I do medical accuracy reviews for those programs that are now the direct service providers. I think there’s a number of ways that we get to reach kids in schools, and that is coming through the required standards and health education curriculum requirements for their states and fulfilling those needs on these important topics. I think also pregnancy centers build strong service relationships and partnerships with the organizations in their community. I always say we want to unite home, family, and church and school to counter the culture’s lies in these areas of what the culture’s wanting for our kids.

STOCKBAUER: What does the opposition look like — what are you up against in the sex education realm? I know Planned Parenthood has their own sex education curriculum — are they the biggest competitor or is there someone else?

KUYKENDALL: They are. Planned Parenthood is the biggest sex educator in the nation and in the world. They’re not afraid to say what their values are for comprehensive sex education, as it’s called. We want to oppose comprehensive sex education, we want to oppose the national sex education standards — a lot of concerning content and misleading content that drives kids to think they’re making safe decisions when they’re not. They’re a rights-based or pleasure-based approach, and we’re gonna be science-based and health-based for what’s truly best for kids. Some would say we are political or religious or moral in our work, but we’re not. We really can focus objectively on what’s best for the health of kids.

STOCKBAUER: What is the reception to your curriculum usually like from young women? Do you get a lot of resistance or is there a movement of young women saying, “Wow, this really is what’s best for me”?

KUYKENDALL: Young people find hope in a message that says, “You have the choice to choose not to give into this pressure and misinformation.” Young people respond well when we uphold their current and future health and we do it with dignity and respect and love and guidance and support — that helps them know we believe they can make the best decision, because inherent in the other message is “You’re gonna fail, and we’re gonna help you fail,” at some level. And kids know that, they know what’s best and it resonates in their soul that this isn’t what they want to do, but the pressure seems overwhelming and there doesn’t seem to be another option. So, we come in and say, “No, there is an option. You can choose to wait — in fact, most kids are.” We show some of the statistics that the media has portrayed incorrectly.

STOCKBAUER: Right now, the conversation about “grooming” is such a hot topic. We’re fighting back against the Left and progressives who want to see drag shows for children and oversexualizing children. How do you walk the line of approaching sex education for kids in that elementary age and having safe boundaries of introducing them to these topics without sexualizing them?

KUYKENDALL: Well, I think you become aware of their cognitive development — what are they doing intellectually, where their brains are, tied together with where their bodies are. There are developmental stages of puberty, pre-puberty, and adolescence that make it important, life-giving information for them to understand their changing bodies and the design of their bodies. Then, they’re able to understand how life begins and fetal development and pregnancy — all of that is around fifth or sixth grade. Prior to that, there’s important information to be shared about character and healthy relationships that set up the foundation to add in these more sensitive topics at age-appropriate times.

With regards to grooming, a lot of my work is against consent education. There are a lot of people saying, “We have to teach consent,” and it’s in some of the laws to prevent sexual abuse. But consent is a moving towards, it’s an agreeing to and a negotiating for sexual activity. Comprehensive sex ed says that sex is fine as long as there’s consent — well, take the grooming piece of this. Groomers work to get consent, so now it’s okay because they got consent. So, children who have been abused and groomed hear “consent” and think, “Well, I guess I consented and it was okay.” Consent can’t be the standard. Instead, we promote refusal skills, resistance skills, boundary setting, communication — all of those things that are part of respecting self and others.

STOCKBAUER: For homeschooling parents who are approaching sex education outside of the modern format of having someone else teach their kids, what’s your advice to parents having this conversation in their own home?

KUYKENDALL: Have the conversation and have it a lot. Be prepared to take on the messages of the world as they come to your kids. It could be through a friend or could come through social media — a number of sources. Be there as your kids are seeing the lies, but make sure you’re ahead of those lies with the truth. They will hear the truth from you, it will resonate in their hearts and minds louder and stronger than the lies of the culture.

Secretary of State Blinken Defends Funding Drag Shows

On Thursday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified at a hearing of the House Appropriations Committee regarding the State Department’s 2024 budget. In one particularly revealing interaction, Blinken was asked about a State Department grant that was approved for an LGBT project in Ecuador and a grant offer in Botswana.

In September 2022, the State Department awarded a $20,600 grant to the Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano Abraham Lincoln in Cuenca, Ecuador to “promote diversity and inclusion” in the region via drag theater performance and LGBT-themed media. A 2022 State Department grant opportunity by the U.S. Mission in Botswana offered $300,000 to “carry out a program to promote greater social acceptance of LGBTQI+ persons, including among influential religious groups and traditional groups” among other things.

At Thursday’s hearing, Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.) asked: “The mission of the State Department is to ‘protect and promote U.S. security, prosperity, and democra[tic] values and shape an international environment … in which all Americans can thrive.’… Tell me how $20,600 sent to the State Department to fund drag performances at a culture event in Ecuador or $300,000 grant opportunity at the U.S. embassy in Botswana to support the LGBTQIA+ groups … I’m curious how we can spend money on these issues outside this country and it fits within the prelude of the definition of your department?”

Blinken responded:

“We are engaging around the world in cultural diplomacy. We’re engaging in also making sure that we’re doing what we can to help protect the rights of marginalized groups, including notably the LGBTQI+ community which in so many countries around the world is under threat, and in many cases under growing threat. So, and I believe, it’s fundamental to our democracy to demonstrate that we are looking out for marginalized populations whatever they might be. We do the same thing with persecuted religious minorities around the world, something also of concern to me and to the Department.

“On the cultural programing, look, in this particular instance, the particular program you mentioned in Ecuador, that actually didn’t go forward. The grantee in this case decided to put a halt to it. You or I may not have chosen to fund this particular program. I think picking one program out of the many that we do for particular scrutiny I don’t think is an accurate reflection of what we’re doing, but in this particular case it didn’t go forward. Now, I have to tell you, maybe it’s just me, I remember a time when I think the most popular movie in the United States was ‘Tootsie,’ and then a little while later it was ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ and then we had ‘The Birdcage’ — all movies that I loved. So, on one level I gotta say I’m just not sure I get what the concern is about, but I also acknowledge that again, you or I might not have chosen to fund this particular program.”

There are several problems with Blinken’s defense of funding drag shows in Ecuador. First, Secretary Blinken tries to make the connection between LGBT issues and pro-democracy efforts. But it would be a stretch for anyone to assert that facilitating a drag performance in the conservative, religious culture in Ecuador would do anything to strengthen its democracy. Furthermore, this is a country with a high poverty rate and serious needs that might benefit from U.S. assistance. Is this really the most effective way to invest in Ecuador’s development?

Second, Blinken points to famous American movies in which men pretend to be women in the plot, like “Tootsie” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” to question why Americans would have a problem funding drag shows in foreign countries. While this may have been intended to offer a moment of levity in the hearing, the logic is laughable. When the men in these movies dressed as women, the audience did not question their gender identity, nor was it celebrated as serving a progressive political agenda. Furthermore, these movies were not funded by the U.S. government to export to foreign countries under the pretense of spreading democracy. Drag shows are bizarre, sexually charged displays that do not serve the U.S. national interest — or the national interest of any country, for that matter. American taxpayers must not be forced to fund this.

Lastly, Blinken’s comments also point to another problem that is pervasive when dealing with bureaucracies the size of the State Deparmtent or U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). So much money is being spent that transparency or accountability are obstructed. The grants in Ecuador and Botswana provide two examples as to why intense congressional oversight and hearings are highly desirable.

Although this specific drag program did not take place, Secretary Blinken still defended it. We do not know what other progressive social programs are being funded by the U.S. government. There are many legitimate foreign assistances needs in the world, and it is simply indefensible to use American taxpayer money this way.
